I am Beck Metzbower.
I am an American Artist who creates contemporary art that focuses on texture, movement, & colour. Obsessively.
I hold a B.A. in Fine Art with a concentration in Studio Art as well as an M.F.A. in Visual Arts & Choreography from Wilson College, 2014 & 2017, respectively.
When I’m not in the studio, you can find me cuddled on the couch with my kids watching movies or hiding in the pantry eating Oreos.
So why do I make art? Why did I, a single mother of three with a budding start in the business field (law specifically), decide to make a career u-turn and work in the arts industry? Well, because I decided to be brave. I was tired of buying into the single mom stereotype: that my goals and dreams were ‘over’ and it was all going to suck from here on out in an endless cycle of employee duties and raising kids on my own. I could have very well fallen into that trap, become a slave to social expectations, and woken up one day at the age of 80 and regretted never fully living. I knew I was embarrassingly creative and that mixed with my business background was a recipe for success. I’m also (if you haven’t figured it out already) a bit of a rebel, incredibly determined, and I’m definitely an overachiever. I also realized that my kids were going to look to me as their compass. What I did: they would likely repeat in their own lives. So I decided to teach myself (and them) to be brave and really, really go after what I wanted during this one lifetime that I have been given.
Thank you humbly for connecting with me and my work.
